My aim is to further my career in the Advertising Industry – using my past marketing, film production & media skills to their full effect in the area of Account Services. To be able to further develop my understanding of the growing area of interactivity & social media in the world of Advertising.
Advertising
In 2009 I won a national competition for a TVC for my joint submission of the idea “Docs Rock!” for the NZ Documentary Festival – to help promote their Festival to their target audience through both TV play & online channels as well. Our entry was an animated piece which you can view on my Showreel (DVD on request). It was a great example of meeting the client’s brief & being able to get their message across to their target demographic. I have a Creative I work with well – but also am flexible enough to work with Agency staff and freelancers as well. What appeals to me is creatively bringing across the Clients’ products or services to their potential customer base.
Television
I first started in Television when I left school to join TVNZ in their training scheme – as a TVA – which was like the Film School of its day. They shot and edited Dramas on 16mm film then – like “Erebus” – which enabled me to learn crucial production skills before the advent of digital technology. Now I am at ease in either world having developed the digital side as technology has changed over the years. My overall production knowledge lead to me moving into the role of Producer – since then I have performed in production roles at all levels from Production Assistant to Executive Producer. I have worked on all kinds of Production Budgets and Film Shoots.
Marketing/ Media
Having completed a Diploma in Marketing (Applied) at WelTec in Lower Hutt in 2007, I have since built on some great skills learnt on projects worked on through my time in the Polytech. I spent time on various Marketing assignments including a Marketing review for a Furniture Restoration Co. in Auckland, as well as a Furniture Retail Store here in Wellington. While studying, the team I worked with was also Runner Up in the Applied Management NZIM National Awards for our work on the creation of a new Gym Business Venture idea -’Fitness on the Go’.
Film
Over the last 10 years or so I have developed excellent film production skills. I am now able to produce a moderate Film Production from development to distribution. I have worked on many other people’s projects – as well as personally produced 6 short films (including SIPF-funded short “Splinter”) and 1 Digital Feature (“Little Things”) in the last decade – most shot on film & delivered digitally as required. My strength lies in finding the right project and getting the right people on board to fully realise the project. I am always looking for new ideas and the best way to bring them to the big screen – no matter what role I have on the production itself. I love Film and all its artistic & creative possibilities. I also see it as a business venture as well.
Customer Service
While developing my film production skills I have also worked in several roles as a Customer Service Representative to help supplement my income while working on various projects during the last 10 or so years. These have included brief stints at Kiwibank Ltd, Orica Consumers Products Ltd and at Work & Income NZ. These roles have enabled me to have financial security while being able to fine tune my production skills. It has also enabled me to develop excellent client relationship management skills – which complement my production skills and have enabled me to be able to deal with potential clients better and to make sure I am best meeting their needs at all time.
